Rhubarb Lime Spring Spritzer

When a neighbor let me pick rhubarb, I found ALittleZaftig's recipe for One-pot Rhubarb Cordial, Sauce, & Compote (http://www.food52.com/recipes/12016_onepot_rhubarb_cordial_sauce_compote). When I finished making it tonight, I really wanted a cool, refreshing drink in my hot kitchen on this early June night.. A little sweet, a little tart, a lovely pale pink -- this is the result, delightful!

Summer Seltzer, Winter Wellness

When a friend told me she and her husband were drinking Turmeric-Ginger Tea during cold season, I asked how they made it, and she came with a recipe in hand, without another reminder! I made it and was deeply pleased with it. But now it's summer, the temperature's reading in the 80's, and I wanted something cold when I came in from gardening. So here's the summer version, thirst quenching and energizing. I've left it at the purist stage, but the original directions included sugar and milk, if you prefer.

Kibbutz Carrot Salad

In 1961 my sister spent a year on a kibbutz in Israel, and came home with this recipe. In 1981, my husband and I had a store with a natural foods deli, and served this salad. 2011, we still make it and have found no reason to do it any differently. If you want, try blood orange for the juice, or grate raw beets with the carrots, or use gogi berries in place of raisins... or just keep making it according to the original, simple and elegant directions. On the kibbutz, it probably showed up at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Why not?
