Dr. Charles McKee's Medicinal Hot Drink
My family doctor gave me this recipe when I had strep throat. He told me gravely that I had to squeeze the lemon juice, not use bottled. He loved traditional advice like this potion, which is efficacious and healthy as long as you don't drive. I stir a tablespoon or two into a cup of steaming tea and have also ordered it straight up in a bar.

Top O' The Evenin'
I love coffee drinks on a cold winter night, and this is among my favorites. Guaranteed to take the chill off and warm you from the inside out.

Hot Apple Pie
Need a little something to take the chill off? Who am I kidding – it’s cold EVERYWHERE- we ALL need the chill taken off! This should do the trick, and everyone loves apple pie!

Cider and Tequila Hot Toddy
This is a progressive take on the classic Hot Toddy. It sounds odd, but it is truly a great cocktail. It was adapted from a Gourmet magazine recipe. Hope you enjoy and Happy Holidays!
Butterball Slider Cocktail
This butterball cocktail has butterscotch schnapps in it and is delightful. This recipe is a must try!

What to do when served bad red wine...
So I learned this trick from a friend of mine, McKenzie. I didn't believe it until I tried it. We leave in DC, the land of fundraisers and politics. Most fundraisers and political events have an open bar but the wine can be a challenge to get down. This is a fool proof trick...
Trick-or-Treat-tini
This may look like a trick, but one sip and you will see that it is a TREAT! A midori cocktail is the first thing that popped in my mind when this week’s theme was announced – it is the perfect wicked witch green! This is what the adults at my house will be drinking on Halloween. Note: The black lava sea salt contains activated charcoal, which has a very dramatic visual effect against the fluorescent green of the midori. I will post a photo soon.
Apple cider cocktail
This drink was inspired by an Apple Cider martini I sampled at our local farmers market and the tradition of a neighbor who offers hot spiked cider to parents of trick or treaters. I tried mixing cold sweet cider with vodka, rum or bourbon. All were good but I liked the Maker's Mark bourbon version best. I used a little cinnamon syrup to add extra sweetness and spice.

Lotus Cocktail
One of my favorite summertime drink creations is this Lotus Cocktail recipe. It's light, clean and refreshing. Pairs equally well with sushi & anything grilled.

Grilled Rosemary Sazerac
This is a summer grilling twist on a classic cocktail.

Super Speedy and Simple Sumer Sangria
Last Minute Creations are the best! I was relaxing outside on my porch about to have some dinner and halfway through my meal, thirst overwhelmed my palate. I got up, and walked over to the kitchen to fetch a drink. I saw an opened bottle of wine, and cans of seltzer and knew that I had some orange juice in the fridge--so I thought, hmmm...looks like I can make some sangria.

Lime rickey with sweet basil
I almost never drink anything other than coffee, wine or beer (oh, and water, of course!)...unless it is made with lime juice. After moving to the East Coast, I developed a penchant for lime rickeys. They're a refreshing summer drink, made even more delicious and refreshing with the addition of some muddled herbs. Mint is, of course, good, but I love the mild licorice punch added by using sweet basil. And, if you want to add a splash of rum or vodka, I definitely won't stop you!
Maui Daydreamin'
Aloha everybody and dig this Basil enriched cocktail from the island of Maui. I used all local kind ingredients for this libation including Maui Ocean vodka, fresh basil from Evonuk Farm in Kula and beautiful strawberries from Kula Country Farm. Welcome to Maui Whole Foods -Hana Hou !

Herbal or citrus ice
Well I was actually experimenting with making a sun tea from staghorn sumac berries recently, where I strained the berries to yield a pale pink lemonesque beverage. Somehow, I wanted to include the fuzzy berries, without them being a nuisance to the drink itself...so I froze some of the drink with some of the berries in an ice cube tray: Don't! The basil is too thin and it will oxidize. But your can use herbs with tougher more leathery leaves. Citrus peels will also work well. Since basil leaves are very thin, if you want to use them in an ice cube, it is best to infuse the water first and then remove the leaves before freezing. Using basil in the ice cube itself may look nice for a short time, but the leaves tend to turn a bit slimy when the cube melts.

Door County Cherry Bounce
Typically made with Door County cherries, this simple recipe mellows for about three months or until the cherries "bounce." The liqueur adds a delicious spike.

"The Black Forest Bowle"
This Bowle recipe is a nice, fruity summer drink. Deep red color and flavor seeps out of the cherries and they inherit booziness in return. Use dry Riesling.
Summer Cherry Diablo
I'm an oenophile, but that's about it when it comes to enjoyment of evening beverages. However, in anticipation of this cherry challenge, I asked my husband to pick up a bottle of tequila on Friday night. I had visions of a cherry sorbet tequila cocktail dancing in my head. Here we are on Sunday, tequila gone, my fingertips stained from pitting two pounds of cherries, and the Summer Cherry Diablo to show for it. Hard work, but someone has to do it, happily in the name of summertime, cherries, and food52. NOTE: This is my summertime take on the classic El Diablo, replacing Crème de cassis with my Summer Cherry Sorbet.
Lime-cucumber liquado
Marlene offered to bring this to our Board of Directors meeting. It turned out to be more delicious than anyone ever imagined. Luckily there was a little bit left that I had with vodka that evening!

Thyme for a "Grilled" Lemon Martini
When I saw the lemon and thyme photo announcing this contest, I immediately thought of a "grilled" martini.

Tequila por Mi Amante (Strawberry Infused Tequila)
More of a technique than a recipe, this tequila-infused strawberry delight requires two ingredients: tequila and strawberries. Make tequila por mi amante.
Fleur de Lys
Sorta like a Mimosa, but with a little Pernod and Cointreau. I know it sounds weird, but trust me, it's delicious.

The Madeleine L'Engle
I wanted to raise a glass in honor of the author of the belowed "A Wrinkle in Time" when I read the news that she had passed away. I decided to make a special cocktail in her honor. Please use a quality gin such as Hendricks, Plymoth, or Junipero.
California Orange Blossom
A neighbor's voluptuous orange tree + cocktail hour = this drink. Yum!
Rhubarb Liqueur Everclear
I'm unwilling to accept the fact that rhubarb has such a brief spring season. So I infuse it into booze like this Everclear liqueur recipe to enjoy all year!
