Margaritas for Jerks
Let's not pretend; this recipe is for a margarita. With an emphasis on simplicity and taste. Our friend with Mexican-Wisconsin heritage threw these together at a backyard cookout one afternoon and it was a bit like watching a card trick. I can't find a reason to make a margarita any other way. It's a foolproof method and really quick; critical after three or four batches. Note: consider using good beer (we used Goose Island Matilda, a Belgian-style ale ) and great tequila (we used Don Julio). Read on.

Piña Corada
No blender? No coconut milk? No worries! The Piña Corada captures the delicious fruitiness of the classic cocktail while providing the refreshing taste of a cold beer. Kick your legs up and let yourself be transported to your favorite Caribbean destination!

Gingered Beer
This (for me) came out of having some really spicy ginger beer laying around in the fridge after a microbeer and microsoda trip in an all day roadtrip taken around Long Island about 15 years ago. It's similiar to a shandy, but not. I like using a Belgian White Ale (that has a hint of coriander in it) to go along with the ginger beer and squeeze a bit of fresh orange or lime juice into the mix also. Feel free to fiddle with the proportions to get it to your liking.

Beer Heering
Stay with a lighter style beer as the base - I use Pale Ales. The secondary liqueur can vary from orange curacao to Grand Marnier to Apricot brandy. The secondary liqueur adds sweetness - don't go up the volumeor the drink will get a bit too sweet.

Summer Beer
Sometimes necessity is the mother of recipe invention. This cocktail was developed from the contents of the freezer at a rented house one August. I am a big fan of Shandy's in the summer and since we didn't have our usual ginger ale when we were craving them late one evening, we made this instead. We were worried that the concentrate would be too sweet, but it actually worked quite well and we have added it to our summer drink rotation.
The Irish Godfather - Guinness and Amaretto Cocktail
Ireland meets Italy in this tasty Guinness beer and Amaretto cocktail. The Italian liqueurs add a delicious nutty flavor with a surprising hint of cherry.

Spicy Michelada
My husband and I spent a week in La Paz, Mexico, to celebrate our courthouse wedding. The trip started off a little shaky (the "honeymoon suite" had two twin beds, the hotel - which had told us it would accept credit cards - was suddenly demanding cash payment up front, a drunk driver slammed into our hotel right below our 2nd floor room...and that was all in the first 10 hours!) but beer for breakfast went a long way toward calming us down and starting the rest of the trip off on the right foot. That beer was in the form of a very simple michelada - a lot of lime juice, a bottle of beer, and spice to taste. Since coming home we've adapted the recipe to suit our preferences, and we end a lot of days (and rarely, start a day) with a little taste of our Mexican adventure.
RED BEER
After I finished college many years ago I decided to take my diploma and become a ski bum in Idaho. Back then there were some strange "blue laws".. liquor laws. One was that you had to be 21 to drink hard alcohol but only 18 to drink beer...in the same bar! But beer was the only alcohol legally served on Sundays. So, everyone drank just beer or red beer which was just beer with a shot of tomato juice. Back then in Ketchum, Idaho bars weren't fancy, so if you asked for a lemon slice or lime they knew that you were from out of town. You were not a local.

Tangy Guinness
My mom was the inspiration for this beverage. Being a dark-choco-holic, I'll consume it anyway, any time, any place. She, however, solely enjoys it with fruit...so here's to you mom!

"Dressed" Beer
A favorite in San Antonio, Texas. Ask for a Dressed Beer and you'll get a cool refreshing drink. The recipe only calls for beer, lime and kosher salt.
Irish Car Bomb Float

The Aviatrix (Cocktails With Creme De Violette)
Looking for a recipe for cocktails with Creme de Violette? This is a lovely, light cocktail. It was easy to make, clean, and sweet, though not at all sugary.

Flirtini
Do we really need to wait until the end of the summer for a good cocktail? I like to think of this as the "just because it's Monday" cocktail. There are several variations of this Flirtini drink, that I think was originally featured on Sex and The City. I always err on the simple side. This is ridiculously easy to make (and drink too much of.) Enjoy!
Watermelon and Bourbon Cocktail
This is my new favorite drink. I had been in love with watermelon margaritas for years, but this summer I decided it was time to change it up. A Southern boy at heart, I always have bourbon on hand so this seemed like a perfect fit. Macerating the bourbon with lemon slices is a key step. Watermelon juice can be easily made by cutting watermelon into chunks and squeezing through a kitchen towel.
Grilled Mint Julep Peaches
One of my favorite summer libations was the inspiration to this summery southern-style dessert.

El Rebujito
Bone-dry and well-chilled Manzanilla sherry is southern Spain's perfect cocktail all on its own, perfect with salty almonds, a little sliver of jamón Ibérico or spicy shrimp. It should be wrong to mess with such a delicate thing, but my Andalusian friend Xesca does so with abandon in this recipe, and I think she is onto something.

Boozesicle
Well, I make popsicles for a living, mostly non-alcoholic. But there's nothing more refreshing on a hot summer night than a cocktail on a stick...that's right baby, frozen popsicocktails!!
