Cherry Tomato Confit
As the term confit implies, this gob of tomatoes is luxuriously rich. The key to the recipe is its simplicity (3-4 ingredients) and time to cook (1 hour) which allows the tomatoes to break down and ooze together with a generous amount of olive oil. The resulting jam is ridiculously intense, and may be divvied up in batches (and frozen) for all kinds of use. Smear some of the confit on crostini, spoon a dollop into a bowl of pasta, use as a pizza sauce, or dilute it with cream for a silky, decadent soup.

Steamed Eggplant With Spicy Peanut Sauce
Bloody Snake Bite
This Red Rattlesnake Drink recipe has the potent & tangy combination of lime, Southern Comfort & cranberry juice. Make when you're in a New Orleans kind of mood.
Real Strawberry Lemonade
This Real Strawberry Lemonade recipe is a fresh alternative to the store-bought artificially flavored version. It's full of strawberries & squeezed lemon juice.

Watermelon Mint Smoothie
I’m always tossing watermelon with fresh mint, so I decided to see how the two would blend in a smoothie. The result is like a cross between a sweet mint tea and a watermelon agua fresca.

5-Minute Tomatillo Salsa
Tomatillo salsa, one of the great taco toppings, is a cinch to make. In this 2011 recipe, the tomatillos, stripped of their papery skin, are paired with Serrano chiles and cilantro. Made from just four ingredients, it comes together in moments and is a superb complement to tacos or tortilla chips.
Poor Man's Kirsch (Alternately: Redneck Kirsch)
I wanted to preserve sour cherries in something without too much flavor. Having no vodka on hand, I turned to white lightening. Voila: homemade kirsch recipe.
Pickled hot, sweet chili peppers and onions
This recipe is consisted of a variety of hot & sweet chili peppers with Vidalia onion and Chile Threads, to make some pickled toppings perfect for the Banh mi.

“Plum Wine” with Lime
Black plums are one of my favorite things. This Lime Plum Wine recipe is tangy and refreshing and a lovely shade of deep pink. Garnish with a small basil leaf.

Tomato-Cucumber Soup With Basil
Not quite a gazpacho, because it contains no bread, this is a summer soup that I can keep in the refrigerator and enjoy every day for lunch or dinner.

The Nairobi
This is a mojito-like variation on my Kenyan-Indian friends' favorite cocktail, Jameson and Ginger Ale. I threw this together when I had some leftover minced basil, mint, and cilantro on the cutting board. Just add lime and voila.
Sweet & Tart Relish
A friend of ours procured a five pound hunk of porchetta that we roasted for a dinner party that was screaming for something bright to balance out the richness of the meat. We just got our annual shipment of sweet onions from Walla Walla, and with the appearance of sour cherries at Chicago farmers markets, I felt that I was on to something magical. The resulting relish was the perfect accompaniment to the pork, and I'm itching to try the leftovers on grilled salmon.
Sarah K's Greengage Plum Jam
I listed the instructions exactly as I made the greengage plum jam recipe. A food pickle recipe from the word go. Thank you Sarah K for the idea & instructions!

Basil Vodka Gimlet Cocktail
This simple, refreshing gimlet cocktail is a pitch-perfect blend of basil, fresh lime juice, and vodka that was made for sipping outside with friends.
Children of the Sun Cocktail
This drink was inspired by the spicy margaritas at Las Perlas in LA. It calls for jalapeño-infused tequila and some smoked salt on the rim (that smokiness with the tequila reminds me of mezcal). I made tons of these for lounging by the pool during this year's Coachella (thus the name). The key to a good poolside cocktail is something refreshing, citrus-y and easy to make. I highly recommend tripling this recipe and keeping a pitcher by the pool.

Frosted Ginger Peach Bellini
Ripe, sweet summer peaches make this drink seasonal and delicious!

Ginger Cranberry Cooler
Cape Cods seem a bit strong for a summer sipping drink, so I refreshed the Cape Cod with some ginger ale for a refreshing summer drink.

Evergreen
Very Belini like, not too alcoholic, full of fruit, blended using a fruit slush rather then ice to cool it.

Cherise's Special
Sorry for the stock photo...in the process of moving and just joined...just got back from Antigua and the bartender, Cherise, made a fantastic, blue, frozen concoction she served in a martini glass. After doing some reasearch, it's very close to a frozen blue hawaiian. The raspberry drizzle compliments the otherwise tropical flavors and adds a pleasant contrast to the vibrant blue.
Prickly Pear Wine Coolers
This recipe makes a gourmet wine spritzer, sort of! Use prickly pear syrup, which is surprisingly easy to find at most liquor stores or gourmet shops.

The Earl
A British-y, tea-based inspired by a cocktail at Park Slope's fine Fornino pizzeria, made portable for a midweek grill in Prospect Park.
Bunga Bunga
Still another concoction in our tribute series to the antics of Italy’s adorable former head of state, Silvio Berlusconi who has done everything but erect a stripper pole in Palazzo Chigi where Italy’s lower house meets. When he was entertaining his huge entourage his meals always included meals in the colors of the “tricolore”, Italy’s flag; green, white, and red. Here comes the red part. E basta cosi.

The Mamie Taylor (A Dark And Stormy With Whiskey)
The Mamie Taylor is one of my favorite drink recipes. It's similar to a Dark 'n Stormy but made with rye whiskey instead of rum and topped with ginger beer.
