Holiday potatoes
I call this holiday potatoes because it's delicious enough for special occasions as well as easy and good for making in large batches. It's one of those serendipitous recipes that sort of created itself, and as a result, doesn't require exact measurements. I also like to make a version with russets peeled and cut smaller as breakfast potatoes.

Sweet Potato Fries with Goat Cheese and Raspberry Sauce
Who doesn't love food trucks? Here in LA they are a way of life. They have their own Facebook pages and blogs and even have their own day of the month in Venice Beach! Well my own personal favorite was called Fresh Fries, an entire menu dedicated only to avant grade Fries. Unfortunately the truck is no longer and I have had to fend for myself in trying to recreate this most unusual late-night, ultra-indulgent food masterpiece, although to look at it you would think it more of a massacre. All I can tell you is that you have to taste it to believe it. It is the perfect balance of salt, sweet, creamy, sour mouth-watering goodness you will ever stumble upon after a 10 mile bike ride and a 5 mile hike. You have been warned :)
Parsley root and purple sweet potatoes fries
This recipe is for Parsley Root Fries and Purple Sweet Potatoes Fries. It's the healthier, baked and more interesting version of regular potatoes fries.

Salt and Vinegar Hash Browns
I heard salt and vinegar and applied it to breakfast -- and hash browns seemed like a good option. I'm not a huge hash browns fan, but I do like them if they're very crispy on the outside, cooked but not mushy on the inside, and very thick so you get good textural contrast. Adding salt and vinegar really bumps up the flavor a notch.

Patricia Wells' Fake Frites
A trick for the best french fries you can make at home -- in the oven, using less oil than you'd put on a salad. Game on. Recipe from At Home in Provence (Scribner, 1999).

Roasted Potatoes with Za'atar
Roasted potatoes are a go-to side dish at my table. I always double the amount and use them in other dishes throughout the week. My tween daughter loves them in quesadillas, on pizza, and they are great in a frittata for a light dinner. I am always looking for a way to change them up a little. Za'atar is one of my favorite ways to add flavor. I was writing about roasted chicken with za'atar for a recent blog post and decided to roast the potatoes with it as well. They were just delicious.

Why do we always make WAY too many mashed potatoes? Here is a crazy idea. Turn those leftovers into a tart gnocchi recipe by poaching them in white wine.

Seared Broccoli and Potato Soup
This is not your average broccoli soup. Instead of merely boiling the broccoli to cook it, here, the florets are seared until deeply browned on one side while remaining bright green on the other. This gives the soup a layer of caramelized flavor while also preserving the fresh green taste of the broccoli itself. It’s a technique inspired by Andrew Feinberg of Franny’s restaurant in Brooklyn, who also uses it for zucchini soup. In this version, we’ve added potato for body, chile flakes for spice and lemon zest to heighten the citrus tang at the end.

Lemon Roasted Chicken with Stoemp (Belgian Mashed Potatoes)

With just a whole lemon, a pinch of salt and a drizzle of olive oil, you will probably have the best roasted chicken ever! For a perfect meal, serve it with the popular Belgian side dish, stoemp (mashed potatoes + root vegetables).

Potatoes à la Lyonnaise
What can you say about a simple potato dish that goes with everything? That it’s the little black dress of side dishes—but wouldn’t that be a cliché? I think it’s best to say that it is a dish I would happily welcome at my table anytime. I can’t think of a meal that would not be improved if served alongside Lyonnaise potatoes. Frankly, as I am writing this, I realize I can’t serve dinner tonight without them. That’s how good they are.

Roasted Potatoes with Green Sauce
